Alhamdulilah, I did it!

This past Saturday, ICNA (Islamic Circle of North America) reserved Six Flags America exclusively for muslims to enjoy rides, halal food, and a huge Bazaar, which Home Synchronize was a part of. I have been working behind the scenes running this business online for a little over a year now. So it was exciting to step out of the shadows and communicate with people face to face for a change.

I had been preparing for this event for almost a month. Aside from the products that I imported from Jordan, I wanted to design and create my own. The following are some of the decor items I created for this event (inshallah they will be listed in the shop very soon, if any of you is interested in purchasing)…

I also made a sign to encourage people to ask about my Islamic calligraphy stencils . I then organized all the stencils into a photo album for illustration purposes. As I expected, not too many people were familiar with stencils (especially cake stencils). Having home decor items that were created by using stencils on display as examples proved their versatility.

Now that the products were ready, I had to think of a visually pleasing way to display them. So I drew up a map of the booth layout and set up a mock display of the products. As I walked in the shoes of potential customers, I planned the booth layout, product display, and checking out process.  This, I was hoping, would give my customers a smooth shopping experience. Alhamdulilah, it did!

And so, without further ado, here is my booth on the day of the event….

It was such a rewarding experience to watch people admire my products and compliment my design skills. I met a lot of wonderful people, and learned a lot about what they like and don’t like in Islamic and Middle Eastern home decor. I am so thankful for this learning opportunity.
